Paul Silveria performs for families as the banjo-slinging, old-time singing "Professor Banjo" entertaining children with sing-a-longs, dancing games, and stories, all accompanied by lively old-time music that parents can enjoy, too! Professor Banjo's shows are fun for a wide range of ages - from toddlers to tweens who still like to get up and dance around!

Back when this traditional music was first played, there were no "learning objectives" attached. But children did learn! They learned to sing, dance, and play. They learned to socialize with their peers and gained self confidence.

With experience as a pre-school and K-12 teacher, Professor Banjo aims to create an atmosphere where kids can follow their own intuition and join the fun in the way that best suits them.

What can parents expect to see their kids do?

Babies and toddlers often stare in rapt attention, both at the music and the other children. They sometimes try out a bit of clapping and dancing - and love to clap and dance with their parents!

Pre-school aged children begin to sing along and join the dancing games. They usually like to hear the stories that are interspersed with the music, and they may offer a suggestion or two when the show calls for audience participation.

School-aged kids usually join in with most of the singing, dancing, and suggestions. Older kids often help their younger siblings participate, and enjoy the parts of the show that include more subtle humor and interesting historical information about the songs.

And, of course, some kids just like to watch - and often take in much more that it seems on the surface!
